Rouge wasn't the reason he sacrificed himself the first time. Besides, he's too busy trying to figure out who he really is to have time for a relationship. Knuckles just sits in front of a rock, he could use some company.

you haven't seen the parts where Rouge just kinda teases Knux. Besides, no actual intimate physical contact comes between Shadow and Rouge. (No, him saving her doesn't count)

Ok take Sonic Chronicles for instance, Rouge isnt motivated to save Knuckles unless some Emeralds are in it...and even you you (Sonic) asks rouge "do you like knuckles?"
