Sonic...not the fastest?

In SA2B, Metal Sonic can outrun Sonic and Shadow in a straight race. Does this mean that Metal is actually faster than they are? Discuss.

SA2B is old, compare his speed in Sonic Unleashed to that Metal piece of crap in SA2B. MS can't stand a chance against that.
The only guys I know who can run as fast as Sonic at any limit is Scourge, too bad he rarely uses the figure 8 peelout.

Nah, Shadow doesn't run, he hovers. He is just fast because of those hover shoes...he is pretty useless without it.

No he would not!But yes,at the start because he hasn't ever ran.And those hover shoes are awesome

Trust me, if you remove his shoes he will just be as fast as Silver and even with it, you cannot compare it to Sonic's speed in SATBK, SATSR or Sonic Unleashed

Yeah Shadow rules and he is as fast as Sonic.

But seeing as Metal Sonic got an upgrade, you'd think his speed would've increased as well.

Well let's put it this way...Sonic's the fastest thing alive. Metal Sonic is a robot, so it's debatable whether or not you can consider him a life form or not. Arguably speaking Metal Sonic is an artificial intelligence and shown to have some degree of sentience. So, Sonic's still the fastest life form, but Metal's been built to totally pwn Sonic. The difference is, Sonic was born, Metal was built. It's a difficult argument.
Shadow...he's fast but yeah he does rely on those shoes and Chaos Control, which Sonic has shown he can do himself. Even Amy's pretty fast so speed does seem to come with being a hedgehog in Sonic's world.
Anyway, I'm not so sure where I stand on this because in a way Metal Sonic is alive, but he's not a lifeform. So we could simply say that Metal's the fastest machine and just put him in an entirely different category, while Sonic's the fastest lifeform. It's difficult to be a life form and compete with a machine, unless Sonic's got those 7 Chaos Emeralds handy. :p

Define alive. If you mean an organic being then yes, Sonic is the fastest thing alive. But if you mean sentient, then Metal Sonic is.

On the contrary, I do believe Sonic is still faster currently, I heard that early Sonic was slower then Metal Sonic.

Sonic actually excels in his speed as he endlessly runs.

Yeah, "early" Sonic was slower, Metal Sonic was four times faster. But not anymore! And Sonic Unleashed proves it.

Actually I think Eggman is the fastest thing alive. I can still remember playing Sonic 3 and Knuckles and no matter what you did you couldn't catch up to him...

No no no no no. I'm not talking about when he's in his Eggmobile. There is a part in the game Sonic 3 and Knuckles where Sonic chases Eggman/Robotnik on his feet. Sonic still can't catch him! I'm telling you, Eggman's the fastest thing alive! O.o
